Disney Animators Form Legacy Animation In Florida
A group of former Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida animators have banded together to open Legacy Animation Studios, a new animation production studio in Winter Garden, Florida, close to Orlando in late January 2004. The studio will offer a full-range of traditional hand-drawn (or 2D) animation services for film, television and commercials. Legacy will also be dedicated to developing original properties for television and film as well as produce its own feature film project.
Annie Noms Go To Fishes, Triplets, Samurais & Robots
ASIFA-Hollywood has announced the nominees for the 2003 Annie Awards, which will be held Feb. 7, 2004 in Glendale, California. Leading the features was FINDING NEMO with 12 nods, followed by BROTHER BEAR with eight. International sensations MILLENNIUM ACTRESS and TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE took home four and three nominations respectively.
Animated TV Commercials From The 1950s And '60s

As part of its "Toons Gone Wild!" series, the Two Boots Pioneer Theatre will be screening vintage "golden age" cartoons that are rarely shown anywhere. Many have not been shown on TV since the 1950s and are unlikely to be ever be available on DVD. A special ToonTalk will follow immediately after each screening. At 10:00 pm, "Animated TV Commercials From The 1950s and '60s" will screen tons of rare animated TV commercials that warped the American consumer's mind in the golden age of television. Tickets are $9.00 and $6.50 members.

Disney to Develop Three Pigs Animated Feature
Disney has hired Grant Calof and Greg Lee to adapt David Wiesner's award-winning illustrated children's book THE THREE PIGS into an animated feature combining CG and traditional techniques, VARIETY reports. Like SHREK, PIGS is a postmodern take on classic fairy tales (this one was made famous by Disney, of course, in a 1933 Silly Symphony short).

Cartoombria 2003 - New Animated Images International Exhibition

Cartoombria 2003 is a non-competitive festival without entry fees. It has become a point of reference in Italy for what concerns the contemporary trends in animation by achieving its yearly presentation as regards the study in depth of the relationship between animated images, new media, music and visual arts. Cartoombria 2003 will in fact include multimedia and audiovisual experimental performances in realtime (acted by musicians and computer artists), environments and installations exhibition, screenings, seminars, meetings conducted by special guests.
Mr Bean Racks Up Deals For Tiger Aspect
Tiger Aspect Productions has signed a raft of broadcast and licensing agreements with international partners who for animated MR BEAN, extending the popular character and his outlandish adventures to new markets around the world.
The propertys U.S. and Canadian licensing agent The Sharpe Company has negotiated a deal with Toy Play to launch an innovative figural toy range to the mass and specialty retail market. Cinder Block, a well-known adult/youth apparel vendor, has signed for T-shirts and sweatshirts.
Machinima Making New 3D Inroads on Spike TV's VGAs
Spike TV (a division of MTV Networks) will be airing animation created using ILL Clan Inc.s proprietary 3D animation technique called machinima. By modifying off-the-shelf computer game technology, the New York animation studio produces machinima in a fraction of the time it would take using typical computer animation techniques.

North Americas Best Independent Animated Shorts (NABIAS)

GARY THE RAT, which launched as part of The Strip programming block of adult animated cartoons, returns solo to the airwaves on Spike TV, Dec. 2, 2003 at 11:30 pm and repeats Dec. 7 at 2:30 am. An additional episode premieres Dec. 11 at 11:30 pm and repeats Dec. 14 2:30 am.
Playhut Entertainment Debuts Chinamation
As part of the Las Vegas Comic Con, Playhut Entertainment presented the North American debut of "Chinamation. The collection of animated TV series features China's top independent animators. Playhut hosted free screenings of DECHENG, WAY OF THE WARRIORS, LITTLE MONK, MIGHTY BUNCH and BIRD ISLAND. As well, the company gave attendees the chance to win limited edition DVDs of the "Chinamation" screeners.
The Best of Toronto Student Animated Films

Animated Feature Films Oscar Entries Due Nov. 3
Makers of animated feature films must submit their entry forms and supporting materials to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for 76th Academy Awards consideration by Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2003.
Filmmakers must submit the entry form that includes the intended award acceptor and signatures of all credited producers and directors. Required a supporting documentation includes a synopsis of the film, cast and credits list and scene stills. Deadline for submitting the film print is Nov. 20.
Rose Bond Launches Animated Site
Rose Bond, a veteran camera-less animator, has launched a new Website, http://www.rosebond.net. The site, designed by BlueMouseMonkey, contains clips featuring Bond's signature style in direct animation -- films made without a camera by drawing directly on the surface of clear film leader. THE CELTIC TRILOGY DOCUMENTARY clip focuses on Bond's fluid pen in motion. The installation section of the site holds clips representing her emerging interest in public art animated projections. The clip from ILLUMINATIONS #1 provides a glimpse into a groundbreaking new medium for moving image artists.

Animation at War Screening

Animation film historian Jerry Beck will introduce and offer a historical perspective to this representative collection of animated war films. The evening will include a 60th anniversary presentation of the Walt Disney feature VICTORY THROUGH AIR POWER, a film not screened in Los Angeles for nearly 20 years and rarely since its original release on July 17, 1943. This part documentary, part animated cartoon is based on Alexander P. de Seversky

MIPCOM News: DLT Ent. Goes Buggy
Independent production and distribution company DLT Entertainment is debuting its exciting new animated property GOING BUGGS! to the international market at this years MIPCOM.
Created by Al Guest and Jean Mathieson, whose previous work has aired on CBS, HBO and the BBC, GOING BUGGS! is an innovative traditional 2D animated comic action fantasy series aimed at kids 6-13. Magic Shadows Inc. and Red Rocket Animation co-produced the 13x30 series.
Katz Gets New Animated Pilot
Fox has optioned a new animated pilot from DR. KATZ creators Jonathan Katz and Tom Snyder of Soup to Nuts in conjunction of Touchstone Television, reported DAILY VARIETY. The untitled comedy will be written by Katz and Snyder with Touchstones Nina Wass and Gene Stein serving as exec producers. This comes on the heels of Fox commissioning another animated pilot from the FAMLY GUYS team of Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, titled AMERICAN DAD. Fox has also put out an open call for concepts from artists in its Pitch-a-Thon contest.
Sarbakan Produces Mystery of the Batwoman Web Game
Sarbakan has announced the completion of a new Flash-animated BATMAN Web game. The online adventure will coincide with the release of the new animated direct-to-DVD feature, BATMAN: MYSTERY OF THE BATWOMAN. The realtime action title was produced for Warner Bros. Online. The 2D interactive animated game will go live at www.wbonline.com in November.
