Die Geschichte des Musikvideos

Avantgardekünstler des Films und des Musikvideos schrieben und schreiben die Geschichte der Visuellen Musik. Diese Geschichte beinhaltet gleichzeitig Aspekte der Geschichte des Trickfilms und des Kurzfilms, des Kinos und des Fernsehens, der Musikkultur und der Unterhaltungsindustrie sowie der Medientechnologie. Die aktuellste Form Visueller Musik bildet das Musikvideo, für das der Kabelkanal MTV zum Synonym geworden ist. MTV strahlt ein Programm aus, das durch die Inkorporation von Traditionen der Bildenden Kunst, des Animationsfilms, des experimentellen Films und der Videokunst in ein kommerzielles Produkt mehr zur Popularisierung von avantgardistischen Bildfolgen und visuellen Erzählweisen beigetragen hat als die meisten Medienkünste zuvor.

Dieses Programm zeigt eine Auswahl von Musikvideos aus der Zeit von 1981 bis 1993, die vom Gebrauch traditioneller und neuester Animationstechniken geprägt sind, sowie Beispiele für Musikvideos, die Musiker wie The Residents, DEVO, Laurie Anderson, David Byrne oder Peter Gabriel als integralen Bestandteil ihrer Arbeit betrachten und Einfluß auf deren Gestaltung nehmen oder sogar selbst inszenieren.

The history of music videos

Avant-garde artists of film and music videos wrote and are still writing the history of visual music. This history includes at the same time aspects of the history of animated and short films, cinema and television, music culture and entertainment industry as well as the media technology. The most current form of visual music is the music video, which the cable channel MTV has become synonymous with. MTV has a program which through the incorporation of traditions of fine art, animated film, experimental film, and video art in a commercial product, has contributed more to the popularity of avant-garde image sequences and visual narratives than most of the media arts before.
This program shows a selection of music videos from 1981 to 1993, which have been marked by the use of traditional and new animation techniques, as well as examples of music videos which musicians such as The Residents, DEVO, Laurie Anderson, David Byrne or Peter Gabriel regard as integral elements of their work and influenced their creation or even staged them themselves.
