Australien besitzt eine bedeutende Geschichte des Trickfilms, die mit kurzen satirischen, in den ersten Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts produzierten Cartoons beginnt. Obwohl es sich um eine beschränkte Auswahl von den 80er Jahren bis 1993 handelt, demonstrieren die Filme eine Vielfalt an Stilen, Techniken und Themen. Die Trickfilme, die besonders spielerisch, experimentell, exzentrisch, poetisch oder eben gesellschafts-kritisch erscheinen, haben sich im unabhängigen Bereich der Animationsproduktion entwickelt - zum größten Teil durch die Vision der Animation als Kunstform motiviert.

Australia has a substantial history of animation beginning with short satirical cartoons produced in the early years of the twentieth century. Although a limited selection from the 1980's through to 1993, the films demonstrate a diversity in style, technique, and subject. The animations which seem the most playful, experimental, eccentric, poetic - or else socially scathing - have evolved in the independent area of animation production largely motivated by a vision of animation as an art from.
