Heinrich Sabl "Cinema & Puppet"

Die Ausstellung "Cinema & Puppet" steht in engem Zusammenhang
mit Heinrich Sabls Filmretrospektive. Sabls fremde Welt zwischen Literatur,
Kunst und mechanischer Apparatur wird mit zahlreichen Modellen aus den Filmen
"Der Hahn", "Wolf bleibt Wolf", "Nachtstück"
und "Franz Müllers Drahtfrühling" sichtbar. Sabls Exponate
haben keinen nostalgischen Charakter. Sie beziehen sich zwar auf die Tradition
des Kinos, doch werden Sabls künstlerische Vorlieben, die vom Figuren-
und Puppentheater und der bildenden Kunst geprägt sind, deutlich sichtbar.
Oskar Schlemmers Experimente mit Figuration, Bewegung und Abstraktion gehören
zu den Ausgangspunkten seiner Überlegung wie die dadaistischen Gesten
eines Kurt Schwitters. Filme wie Ausstellungstücke sind Reflektionen
einer kaum zur Besinnung kommenden Medienlandschaft. Spielerisch hinterfragen
sie den Realismus, den Naturalismus und den Illusionismus von Film, ohne
des Künstlers eigene Faszination für das Medium zu verhehlen:
So zeigen die kleinen Modelle von "100 Jahre Kino", einer Filmgeschichte
von Eisenstein bis Godard, die Akribie und den Perfektionismus, mit dem
Sabl seine Stoffe umsetzt. In dieser Ausstellung werden erstmalig Exponate
aus Sabls derzeitigem Filmprojekt "Père Ubu" zu sehen sein.
Ergänzend werden Sabls Filme auf dem Monitor präsentiert.

The exhibition will open on Friday, 29th March at 11 a.m.
The exhibition "Cinema & Puppet" is closely connected to Heinrich
Sabl's film retrospective. Sabl's strange world between literature, art
and mechanical apparatus can be seen with numerous models from the films
"Der Hahn", "Wolf bleibt Wolf", "Nachtstück"
and "Franz Müllers Drahtfrühling". Sabl's exhibits do
not have a nostalgic character to them. They do refer to the tradition of
the cinema, but Sabl's artistic preferences, which are influenced by character
and puppet theatre, and visual art, are very apparent. Oskar Schlemmer's
experiments with figuration, movement, and abstraction are the origins of
his thoughts, just like the Dadaistic gestures of Kurt Schwitters. Films,
just like exhibits, are reflections of a fast-moving media world. In a playful
way they question the realism, naturalism, and illusionism of film, without
concealing the artist's own fascination for the medium: the little models
in "100 Jahre Kino" (100 years of cinema), a history of film from
Eisenstein to Godard, show the precision and perfectionism, with which Sabl
transforms his material.
Exhibits from Sabl's current film project "Père Ubu" will
be on display for the first time ever at this exhibition. In addition, Sabl's
films will be presented on screen.
