Scott McCloud Selected as Second SIGGRAPH Featured Speaker

Graphic novelist Scott McCloud has been selected as the second featured speaker at SIGGRAPH 2007, the 34th International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, Aug. 5-9, 2007, at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California.

For 2007, SIGGRAPH will replace the single keynote speaker presentation with three featured speakers that will discuss the themes of industry/commerce, art or research as they relate to the SIGGRAPH community.

Voice Cast Officially Announced for Shane Acker's 9

An all-star cast headed by Elijah Wood, Jennifer Connelly, Crispin Glover, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer and John C. Reilly are providing voice work in Shane Acker's animated sci-fi, fairy tale, 9. Adapted from his Academy Award nominated short, the 3D-animated feature is currently in production at Attitude Studio and LuxAnimation in Luxembourg for Focus Features.

Cascade SIGGRAPH Hosts Lecture on GPU Shader Programming and Visualization

Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH, Oregon and Southwest Washington's local SIGGRAPH chapter, announced that award-winning Oregon State University professor of Computer Science, Dr. Mike Bailey, is scheduled to lecture on graphics processing unit (GPU) shader programming and visualization on March 22 at PCC Cascade Campus in Portland, Oregon. Titled "GPU Shader Programming for Fun and Visualization," Bailey's lecture will discuss the basics of vertex and fragment GPU shader programming, as well as the brand-new geometry shader capability, and its specific use in scientific data visualization.

Award-winning vfx supervisor Ed Kramer (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MANS CHEST), a 12-year vet of ILM, has joined !mpossible Pictures. Submissions for SIGGRAPH 2007 Computer Animation Festival Due March 14

The SIGGRAPH 2007 Computer Animation Festival (CAF), chaired by acclaimed computer graphics researcher, Paul Debevec, is now open for submissions. Animations chosen for the festival will be shown at the prestigious Electronic Theater at the San Diego Civic Theater or in the Animation Theater screening rooms at the San Diego Convention Center Aug 5-9. LA SIGGRAPH to Hold Fashion Show for CG Hair & Fur

On Dec. 12, 2006, the Los Angeles Professional Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH is holding The Hair and Fur CG Fashion Show with music by Atom Smith. The event is being sponsored by Autodesk and moderated by Mar Sorell.

Taking place at the Knitting Factory Club in Hollywood, food and three bars will be available. Doors will open and hors d'oeuvres will be served starting at 6:30 pm with the program beginning at 7:30, followed by the party, which will run until 11:00 pm.
