Basil Brush Gets Tooned, Postman Pat Goes to Germany

Entertainment Rights Plc. (ER) announced that the BBC has commissioned 13 more half-hour episodes of THE BASIL BRUSH SHOW for the BBC and the CBBC channel. The agreement brings the total number of episodes of THE BASIL BRUSH SHOW under license to the BBC to 65.

Five Commissions New Rupert Bear Animation Series From ER

U.K. broadcaster, Five, has commissioned Entertainment Rights Plc. (ER) to produce a new animated RUPERT AND FRIENDS (52x10) to broadcast in fall 2006.

This agreement follows ERs acquisition of the controlling rights to Rupert Bear from Express Newspapers (Express) in October 2005. ER acquired worldwide in perpetuity all audio visual, licensing and merchandising, publishing, live events and new media rights to Rupert Bear and the world of Nutwood.

ANIMANIA HD Snaps Up Two Animated Series from Monster

Monster Distributes has been busy closing sales following a successful MIPCOM, including two sales to Animania HD, a high-definition channel solely dedicated to animation, which has taken both PICME (104x5), from Irish production company Jammedia, and JUNGLE BEAT (13x5), from Zimbabwean production company Sunrise Media for U.S. high-definition broadcast.

Lola & Virginia Joins Disney Channel Italy

In a deal signed at MIPCOM 2005, Icon Animation has signed a deal to bring its animated series LOLA & VIRGINIA (52x11) to Disney Channel Italy, adding to the earlier acquisition of the series by Disney Channel Spain. The series, which is targeted at girls 8-12, has already pre-sold to Nickelodeon Channel Latin America, Disney Channel Spain, RCTV Venezuela and Animania USA.

DECODE & Aardman Go Down Under with Planet Sketch

DECODE Ent. is further expanding its presence on Australian public broadcaster ABC, signing a deal for Aardman Animations co-production PLANET SKETCH at MIPCOM 2005.

This deal marks a further commitment to DECODEs programming by the broadcaster, which already airs a number of series including the primetime 2D animation BROMWELL HIGH as well as FRANNYS FEET and THE SAVE-UMS! for pre-schoolers.

Cartoon Network Reups MoonScoop’s Code Lyoko

At MIPCOM, MoonScoop announced a new deal that will bring an additional 45 episodes of CODE LYOKO to Cartoon Network. This deal brings the total number of episodes for the show to 97 half-hours. A second season of 26x30 launched last month.

Aardman’s Shaun The Sheep Munches His Way Around The World

Aardman Animations SHAUN THE SHEEP, a 40x7 series featuring the star of Oscar-winning WALLACE AND GROMIT short A CLOSE SHAVE, is starting its international journey through a raft of pre-sales concluded at MIPCOM 2005.

Commissioned by CBBC for broadcast in 2007, SHAUN THE SHEEP has been picked up by co-producer WDR in Germany and pre-sold to ABC Australia, TVNZ New Zealand, SVT Sweden, DRTV Denmark, NRK Norway, YLE Finland and Minimax in Hungary.

INSPIDEA To Launch Feverish Football Comedy MMFF

Malaysian animation producer, INSPIDEA, is presenting MMFF short for Mustang Mama Football Fever at Booth no 05.14 in MIPCOM this year.

MMFF, a 26x2 animation series, takes a comedic look at football in the most unusual sense. Besides the decrepit grandma called Mustang Mama, MMFF will feature new characters, like Silly Sally, Mamas pet cow, and the clueless Toby, Mamas only grandson.

Taffy To Distribute Sunwoo’s Mixmaster: The King Of Cards

Taffy Ent. has signed a deal with Korean-based Sunwoo Ent. to distribute Sunwoo's hot new anime style series, MIXMASTER: THE KING OF CARDS. The deal will call on Taffy to manage worldwide rights (excluding Asia) for the series in all categories including television, home entertainment, licensing, merchandising, master toy, Internet as well as both online and mobile trading card games. The multi-platform deal was unveiled at MIPCOM and MIPCOM Jr. this week.

Skyland Tops MIPCOM Jr.

Results airing coming out of MIPCOM Jr. with Millimages and Method Films SKYLAND topping the list of the most requested series at the event, taking place in Cannes, France. The series holds the top two spots with Millimages screenings at #1 and Method Films at #2. Marathons TEAM GALAXY come in third followed by Planet Nemos BALI at #4. Rounding out the top ten were BRBs BERNARD, Warner Bros. BEN 10, Animation Collective and MTVs KAPPA MIKEY and Breakthrough Ent.s CAPTAIN FLAMINGO.

Studio B Clashes With Class of the Titans

On New Year's Eve 2005, CLASS OF THE TITANS, an original animated series produced by Studio B, will launch on the Canadian specialty network, TELETOON. Studio B is in post-production on 26x22 episodes of the action-adventure series with distribution partner Nelvana. Studio B and Nelvana will launch this new series at MIPCOM Jr. in France.

The Ooshes in Licensing Challenge at MIPCOM Jr.

New York-based Lavinias World has announced that THE OOSHES has been chosen as one of five finalists in the 2005 MIPCOM Jr. Licensing Challenge. The finalists will be pitching their projects live to a jury that will select one as the winner. The final round of this competition, organized by MIPCOM Jr. and LICENSE! MAGAZINE will take place on Oct. 16, in Cannes, France.

BWM Sells Bardel Programs To Toon Disney

B Wooding Media (BWM), acting as agent for Bardel Distribution, has sold three animated features, DRAGONS: FIRE & ICE, DRAGONS: THE METAL AGES and SILVERWING: THE MOVIE TRILOGY, to Toon Disney in the U.S. for a fall 2005 debut.

The DRAGONS movies will be featured in the popular Jetix block at 7:00 pm, and will be supported with cross promotions in fall 2005 and fall 2006 through retail partners Megabloks and Lions Gate Ent.

Gene-Fusion Animated Feature Gets Underway in Ireland

Pre-production has begun on the animated action/adventure feature, GENE-FUSION, it was announced today, Sept. 15, 2005, by producers Banjax Studios, pop 6, and Beckett Entertainment Inc. announced today. The film for TV/DVD and theatrical release in selected territories will be delivered in late 2006 with a 26x30 series to following 2007.

Monster Dist. Books Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello

Monster Distributes has picked up international distribution rights to another big Annecy winner, THE MYSTERIOUS GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORATIONS OF JASPER MORELLO, and will be launching the short feature film at MIPCOM Junior.

Funded by the AFC, Film Vic and SBS Independent, animator Anthony Lucas JASPER MORELLO won the top honor at the festival, the Grand Prix award le Cristal DAnnecy, out of the 1,709 films that were entered.

Banjax Opens Digital Animation Studio in Belfast

Banjax has opened a new digital animation studio based in Belfast's Titanic Quarter, to produce province's first major animated feature film and breathe life into the creative industries in Northern Ireland.

Banjax founders Darryl Collins, formerly of Blackstar, and award-winning director and writer Richard Morss and director/animator Alastair McIlwain, are focusing on the export potential of two major projects in a global industry sector that is expected to grow 10-fold over the next five years. Their efforts are being supported by Northern Ireland agencies.

Mainframe Taking Arthur 3D in Animated Feature

Mainframe Entertainment has acquired international distribution rights for a new CG animated direct-to-video film based on the tremendously popular ARTHUR children's book series. Mainframe, Lions Gate Family Entertainment and RichCrest Animation have partnered to create the feature film, ARTHUR'S MISSING PAL, which will mark the first time that the beloved aardvark will come to life in 3D CG animation. IDT Entertainment Sales (IDTeS) will sell international distribution rights for the film on behalf of Mainframe.

Rights management company Target Entertainment, acting as agent for Chapman Entertainment, has signed new TV deals for FIFI AND THE FLOWERTOTS in Asia and the Middle East. Target reps the stop-motion series from Chapman Ent., which continues to impress buyers across the globe, taking root in 42 territories that have picked up the rights to the TV series since its launch at MIPCOM 2004.
