Futurikon and BRB Fire Up Dragon Hunters

BRB and leading French producer Futurikon are about to launch DRAGON HUNTERS in the Spanish and Portuguese markets. The series recounts the misfortunes of Lian Chi and Gwizdo, two dragon hunters who have to take on more than 50 of these legendary monsters in a fantasy medieval world set in the future.

Banjax Opens Digital Animation Studio in Belfast

Banjax has opened a new digital animation studio based in Belfast's Titanic Quarter, to produce province's first major animated feature film and breathe life into the creative industries in Northern Ireland.

Banjax founders Darryl Collins, formerly of Blackstar, and award-winning director and writer Richard Morss and director/animator Alastair McIlwain, are focusing on the export potential of two major projects in a global industry sector that is expected to grow 10-fold over the next five years. Their efforts are being supported by Northern Ireland agencies.

Mainframe Taking Arthur 3D in Animated Feature

Mainframe Entertainment has acquired international distribution rights for a new CG animated direct-to-video film based on the tremendously popular ARTHUR children's book series. Mainframe, Lions Gate Family Entertainment and RichCrest Animation have partnered to create the feature film, ARTHUR'S MISSING PAL, which will mark the first time that the beloved aardvark will come to life in 3D CG animation. IDT Entertainment Sales (IDTeS) will sell international distribution rights for the film on behalf of Mainframe.

Fifi and the Flowertots Pollinate New Territories

Rights management company Target Entertainment, acting as agent for Chapman Entertainment, has signed new TV deals for FIFI AND THE FLOWERTOTS in Asia and the Middle East. Target reps the stop-motion series from Chapman Ent., which continues to impress buyers across the globe, taking root in 42 territories that have picked up the rights to the TV series since its launch at MIPCOM 2004.

Gang of Seven Does Short Animation for Son of the Mask

Gang of Seven (G7) Animation recently completed work on a number of animated sequences for the upcoming New Line feature film, SON OF THE MASK, the sequel to the hit film, THE MASK and stars Jamie Kennedy as animator Tim Avery. The feature is set for release Feb. 18, 2005.

Mirage Animation Offers Animation Financing Scheme

Mirage Animation, a new animation firm headquartered in Montreal, with offices in Los Angeles and New Delhi, is offering a new alternative to the rising costs of animation and game art production. Coming out of its first MIPCOM, Mirage Animation will defer all production related expenses (layout, ink-and-paint, backgrounds, compositing and effects) against broadcast contracts.

Producers would be responsible for pre-production and post costs and would be required to provide Mirage with signed broadcast agreements and evidence that they can finish the post-production.

ADV, Funimation & Geneon Form Joint Venture

At MIPCOM, the three largest producers and distributors of anime in America -- ADV Films Inc., Funimation Prods. and Geneon Ent. (USA) Inc. -- announced plans to form a joint venture for the development and marketing of anime. They will focus on developing high quality entertainment series primarily targeted to children and young adults, where the team can best maximize their respective resources, talent and expertise.

Gerry Anderson & Sony Launch New CG Captain Scarlet Series

Gerry Anderson Prods. has teamed with Sony Pictures Ent. and Sony Wonder, the family and children's entertainment division of newly merged Sony BMG Music Ent., to launch 26 episodes of the CG-animated television series GERRY ANDERSON'S NEW CAPTAIN SCARLET, which is in production at Pinewood Studios outside of London. TriMedia Ent. Group was instrumental in facilitating the arrangement between Gerry Anderson Prods. and Sony Wonder, and will participate in all revenue streams which result from the partnership.

Futurikon Marks Big Success at MIP Jr.

With MIPCOM Jr. wrapping up its run on Oct. 3, 2004, the conference posted improved attendance and proved a big success for Futurikon productions. The number of companies attending increased from 367 to 426. Total participants increased from 704 to 772. Additionally, 356 new programs were presented compared to 339 the previous year.

Silverwing Series Repackaged Into Movie Trilogy

Bardel Ent. has repackaged its SILVERWING series into a movie trilogy created for both broadcast and DVD/VHS distribution worldwide. Under the creative direction of veteran producer Chris Henderson, the 13x22 series has been edited into three 72-minute movies with Dolby 5.1 surround sound. Henderson recently completed Scholastic Ent.s theatrically released feature film CLIFFORDS REALLY BIG MOVIE and also worked on Disneys RETURN TO NEVER LAND.

New George Of The Jungle Swings Into Production

Studio B and Classic Media announced that they will produce and distribute a new GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE Flash-animated series. Originally a primetime animated series from Jay Ward, the new series (52x11) has been commissioned by Canadian animation broadcaster Teletoon and is slated for broadcast in 2006.

TV-Loonland & ZDF tivi Team on Rudi and Trudi

TV-Loonland will join with ZDF tivi to produce the series RUDI AND TRUDI. TV-Loonland and ZDF Enterprises will start marketing the worldwide TV and subsidiary rights at MIPCOM. Production of the series is slated to begin in the fall. Broadcast launch in Germany is planned for spring 2006.

Bible Gets CGI Animated Series

With Hollywood hot on adapting projects from the word of God, Australian producer Tom Broadbridge will create a 12-episode series titled, THE ANIMATED ADVENTURE BIBLE, reports HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Funded by a group of private Malaysian Christian investors, the budget is set at AUS$15 million ($10.4 million).

Dargaud Distribution, the sales arm of leading French producer Dargaud Marina, has signed a raft of sales for CHILDHOOD STORIES, eight animated television specials based upon popular childrens books. Adina Pitt has been promoted from director to vp of Acquisitions for Nickelodeon and Nicktoons, Nickelodeon's digital channel for the next generation of animation. Pitt will handle pre-buys and acquisitions for both networks, reporting to Pete Danielsen, svp of programming, Nickelodeon; and Keith Dawkins, vp/gm, Nicktoons.

Monster Distributes Ltd. recently completed deals with ITV in the U.K. and Kika in Germany to broadcast KIDS TEN COMMANDMENTS. The series, which Monster picked up at NATPE, ahs a few minor deals and is ready for a big launch at MIPCOM, reports Andrew Fitzpatrick, chairman of Monster Distributes.

IDT Ent. has formed IDT Ent. Sales (IDTeS) a new company responsible for the worldwide distribution of content from its companies, as well as third-party producers. IDT Ent. companies include Anchor Bay Ent., Manga Ent., DPS, DPS/Film Roman, Mainframe Ent. and DKP Effects.
