The Society has arranged for special discounted rates at the North Los Angeles/Glendale Hilton Hotel (US$119/night; note: limited availability for these rates on September 26) and the Best Western Golden Key Motor Hotel (US$99/night). These rates are available through the early September (for the Hilton) and late August (for Best Western); it is important to indicate you are attending the SAS Conference in order to obtain these discounted rates.

These hotels are 3 miles from the Brand Library & Art Center, which is accessible by public transit and taxi. They are 8 miles from Burbank Airport and 25 miles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

It is recommended that you use either an airport limousine or one of the airport shuttle services (such as Super Shuttle or Prime Time Shuttle), whose rates begin at $17 (for Burbank) and $20 (for LAX). Taxis from LAX will cost about $65 and $20 from Burbank Airport. The cost to rent a car varies, though it is often lower than other major American cities. Public bus transit is available to get around Glendale, but is not recommended for long distances.

Both hotels are within walking distance of numerous restaurants, bookstores and other types of stores, including the Glendale Galleria shopping center; in fact, downtown Glendale is one of the few pedestrian-friendly environments in the Los Angeles area. Prices at restaurants vary, starting at $5-$10 for breakfast, and higher for lunch and dinner. Nearby attractions, which involve some travel, include the Los Angeles Zoo, Gene Autry Western Museum and the American Cinematheque/Egyptian Theater, as well as Universal City Studios and Dodger Stadium.

A list of other, lower cost hotels in the area will be posted soon. There is no youth hostel in Glendale or immediately adjacent; the nearest ones are in Hollywood, but travel via public bus transit can be rather long.

The Brand Library & Art Center is somewhat isolated and the nearest restaurants are several blocks away. Because of this, low-cost box lunches will be provided on Friday, in addition to the picnic lunch on Saturday. The weather in Glendale in late September can be rather hot and dry, with little chance of rain.
