H2V Springs Slinky Animated Properties

As if they hadnt sprung enough new animated features on us already (three in 2004), Montreal-based H2V Entertainment plans to produce two more theatricals starring one of the worlds most well-known toys, the Slinky. H2V Kids, a new addition to H2V and its partner UKFS, have signed a deal with DoubleTake Spring Partners, Inc. and James Industries, Inc. to launch the legendary toy into the world of animation with two movies and a TV series based on characters from the hit collection of Slinky Pets toys.

Worldwide licensing agent, The Sharpe Co., has negotiated a number of licensing partners for DECODE Entertainments 3D animated pre-school show, THE SAVE-UMS!

New licensing and merchandising partners include Copyright Promotions Group in the U.K., France, Spain, Portugal, the Benelux territories and Italy; Licensing Works in Australia and Newman International in New Zealand. Plus Licens is a licensing partner for Scandinavia and Eastern Europe with the company also picking up merchandising rights for Scandinavia.

Schwarzenegger’s Voice & Likeness Appear For First Time in Videogame

Californias governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his first-ever videogame appearance in Ataris TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES for the next-generation game consoles released on Nov. 11, 2003 in collaboration with Intermedia, IMF, C2 Pictures and Columbia TriStar International. The videogame includes an exclusive Making Of The Video Game documentary containing footage of, and interviews with, Schwarzenegger and the entire cast, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the making of a Hollywood videogame.

Nemo DVD & VHS Net 8 Million Units Sold

Disney's Buena Vista Home Entertainment announced that the FINDING NEMO DVD and VHS set a new first day sales record of eight million units sold, bringing in approximately $130 million, reported VARIETY. This feat beats Columbia TriStar's SPIDER-MANs first day sale record of 7 million units. The ocean adventure brought in $340 million at the box office making it the biggest grossing film of the year so far and estimates have the home entertainment versions of the fishy flick bringing in nearly $400 million in its first week.

Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights DVD Animates Chanukah

Adam Sandler's first animated foray, EIGHT CRAZY NIGHTS, comes to DVD (Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, $26.95) Nov. 4, 2003, with lots of Sandler bonuses underlying the somewhat autobiographical holiday riff.

Originally written for SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, Sandler's new version of his beloved and nearly classic Chanukah song, specially written for the movie and coupled with his talent to voice multiple characters, makes for a kosher comedy this season.

Angelus Awards Announced

The Angelus Awards Student Film Festival announced the winners of its 8th annual student film competition. Winning films screened at the awards ceremony on October 25 at the Directors Guild of America. A special tribute and SPIRIT OF ANGELUS award were given posthumously to Academy-Award winner Gregory Peck, which was presented to his wife, Vèronique Peck. Twenty-one college and graduate level film students were selected as finalists from a record 472 entries worldwide.

Dubai TV has launched BARNEY on free TV in the Middle East, The program debuted there in 2000 and has seen growing success. A live show is underway for early 2004. As well, the series has been licensed to Hong Kong ATV World Channel. In addition, video deals have been signed for Argentina, Peru and Chile.

SAFO Announces 2003 Winners

On October 19, 2003, the Ottawa International Student Animation Festival (SAFO 03) announced its winners. An international jury selected winners in seven categories from 72 films. CalArts student Jean-Jacques Villard took home the top honors with the Nelvana Grand Prize for his film SON OF SATAN. Turku Arts Academy of Finland garnered the Grand Prize - Best School for exhibiting a high level of consistency and diversity in its show reel.

Academy to Present Screening of Disney’s Victory Through Air Power

In anticipation of Disneys upcoming WAR TOONS DVD set to be released Dec. 2, 2003 (as part of TREASURES WAVE 3), the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present a 60th anniversary presentation of the Walt Disney feature VICTORY THROUGH AIR POWER on Oct. 22, 2003, at 8:00 pm, a film not screened in Los Angeles for nearly 20 years and rarely since its original release on July 17, 1943. Vfx artist Alex Brodie of Company 3 Santa Monica applied his subtle touch to BABY BOY, the new video from Beyoncé, helping to create a seductive setting for the sultry singer's duet with reggae rapper Sean Paul. Brodie enhanced virtually every scene in the video, affecting lighting and making numerous image manipulations, including adding to the "harem" that surrounds Paul in one of the video's most memorable scenes.
