Pixar Films Part of 2011 Commemorative Stamp Program

Stamps will be issued to observe the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, the 50th anniversary of America’s first manned spaceflight and a celebration of Disney Pixar movie characters: Lightning McQueen and Mater from Cars; Remy the rat and Linguini from Ratatouille; Buzz Lightyear and two of the green, three-eyed aliens from Toy Story; Carl Fredricksen and Dug from Up; and the robot WALL*E from Wall*E on Send a Hello stamps.

The Librarian of Congress has named the annual list of 25 motion pictures selected for preservation as part of the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress. The Empire Strikes Back, Airplane, The Exorcist, The Pink Panther and McCabe and Mrs. Miller are just a few of the films selected for 2010.

Bad weather and a Friday-night Christmas eve may have played a part, though the lackluster performance of most films just might reflect movie-watcher displeasure with the current slate of films.
