Charlie Arrives on DVD Nov. 8

Tim Burtons CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, which collected a sweet $205 million at the box office with the help of vfx from Moving Picture Co., Framestore CFC, Cinesite (Europe), Digital Domain, Darkside Effects Ltd. and Neal Scanlan Studio, makes its DVD debut on Nov. 8 (Warner Home Video, $30.97 two-disc deluxe edition, $28.98 single disc).

Danny Phantom Gets in Game for the First Time

Nickelodeons popular Danny Phantom character is available for the first time as a videogame, DANNY PHANTOM: THE ULTIMATE ENEMY, which THQ Inc. has released to retail outlets throughout North America. This fast-paced, action game based on a special episode of the popular Nickelodeon television series, DANNY PHANTOM.

The videogame recreates all of Danny's TV powers, allowing players to walk through walls, shoot ghostly beams and howl a ghostly wail as he travels through time to save the world.

Marvel Launches Independently Financed Film Slate

Marvel Enterprises Inc. announced the completion of a $525 million non-recourse debt facility, which will finance Marvel's production of up to 10 films based on characters from its stable of comicbook characters, including Captain America, Nick Fury and The Avengers. Paramount will distribute the film slate, with the first theatrical release expected for summer 2008. This arrangement gives Marvel complete creative control, the ability to build a film library and greater profit potential than it has received from films licensed to other studios.

Nickelodeon Europe Takes Another Dose of Vitaminix

Nickelodeon Europe has purchased the VITAMINIX series from Barcelona-based Icon Animation for the broadcast on Nickelodeon channels airing in Germany, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Holland and Flemish-speaking Belgium after a successful run on Nickelodeon channels in Latin America and Spain, of the 2D Flash animated shorts (104x2), which aim to teach children about the nutritional value of food, minerals and vitamins.

Special Edition Titanic DVDs Set Sail Oct. 25

The ultimate TITANIC DVDs will be released on Oct. 25 in a special edition, a special collectors edition and a deluxe collectors edition, it was announced by Paramount Home Ent., Twentieth Century Fox Home Ent. International and James Camerons Lightstorm Ent. The three-disc special collectors edition ($29.99) will be available in the U.S., Japan and Korea, while the two-disc special edition will be available in Europe, Australia and Latin America.

More Animation Announced at eDIT 8.

eDIT 8. Filmmakers Festival, the art and science of the moving image (Oct. 9-11, 2005, in Frankfurt, Germany), announced that this years animation master Chris Landreth will interview festival honoree Phil Tippett on Oct. 10.

In addition, Landreth will present the making of his Academy Award-winning short, RYAN, during the panel Great Animation and Storytelling, also on Oct.10 (designated Animation Day), hosted by AWN/VFXWORLD publisher Dan Sarto. Juan Pablo Etcheverry (MINOTAUROMAQUIA) and Oury Atlan (OVERTIME) will discuss their work as well.

PorchLight Ent. Buys the Farm from Australia

PorchLight Entertainment has acquired exclusive distribution and licensing and merchandising rights to NEW MACDONALDS FARM, Beyond Distributions hit childrens series which airs on Australias Network Nine.

The hit series, targeting kids 2-5, features child-like farmers Max and Milly in a combination live-action and puppetry setting. There are 45 half-hour episodes completed with an order for 45 more. PorchLight will market the series for domestic broadcast distribution and actively seek U.S. licensees.

Ottawa Animation Fest to Spotlight Singapore

The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) focus on Singapore at the 2nd annual Television Animation Conference (TAC), which takes place Sept. 21-22, 2005. Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) is sending production and policy executives from Singapore's animation industry to the conference and meet with Canadian counterparts at a roundtable to establish business contacts explore co-production possibilities.

Antics Pre-Viz Aids Virgin Radio TV Campaign

Antics Technologies recently helped TENFOUR Media deliver three :20 commercials for the forthcoming Virgin Radio TV campaign, The Music We All Love. The three pieces were shot in HD and edited on VelocityHD at ahc Post. Given the need to see more than a 2D version of the storyboard, and the tight schedule, TENFOUR Media approached Antics to use its Pre-Viz tool to work out some of the more complex aspects of the shoot.

Atari Sells off Humongous Ent. for $10.3 Million

Atari Inc., a leader in interactive entertainment, has sold its Humongous Entertainment studio to Infogrames Ent. SA, the company's majority stockholder, for approximately $10.3 million.

About $2 million of the purchase price represents pre-payment of future costs Atari will incur related to platform royalty advances, manufacturing costs and milestone payments. Atari will have exclusive distribution rights for Humongous products in the U.S., Canada and Mexico through at least March 31, 2006.

Trollz Feature Premieres on Disney Channel

Disney Channel will broadcast the worldwide television premiere of the animated feature, TROLLZ: BEST FRIENDS FOR LIFE, from DIC Entertainment (DIC), on Aug. 27, 2005, at 2:00 pm with subsequent airdates scheduled September 3 and 29 on Toon Disney.

The Trollz world revolves on the adventures of five teenage best friends Amethyst, Onyx, Sapphire, Topaz and Ruby each of whom is very different from the other. Each friend offers her unique style in personality, color, fashion symbol and gemstone, but together they form the Magic of The Five.

Disney Signs Exclusive Deal with Wal-Mart for Wise Men Pic

For the animated feature THE THREE WISE MEN, Disney has stuck an unprecedented deal with Wal-Mart, where the retailer will sell the film exclusively from Nov. 1 through the holidays, according to VARIETY.

Buena Vista Home Ent. is distributing the 76-minute film, produced by Animagic Studio, for Latino marketing and acquisition company Arenas Ent., which purchased the rights from Spain-based Cartel.

REALVIZ Team Hits Road for 2005 SFX Tour

REALVIZ has confirmed that the first leg of its 2005 SFX tour will kick off in the U.K. at the beginning of next month. The tour will run from September through to November 2005, and will visit a selection of towns and cities internationally in the U.K., France, Sweden, Greece and Australia, with additional countries being added over the course of the next few weeks.

Capcom announced the release of DARKWATCH for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Developed by High Moon Studios Inc., DARKWATCH is an immersive FPS (first person shooter) that blends the lawless action of the Wild West with the thrilling horror of vampire movies.
