SIGGRAPH 2007 Computer Animation Festival Awards Announced

Winners of the SIGGRAPH 2007 Computer Animation Festival have been announced: Best of Show Award (ARK from Poland), Jury Honors (DREAMMAKER from Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Post Production Filmakademie Baden-Wurttemberg) and Award of Excellence (EN TUS BRAZOS from Supinfocom Valenciennes). The 34th International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques will be held Aug. 5-9 in San Diego, California.

Michel Ocelot's Azur Et Asmar Wins Sprockets

The 10th annual Sprockets Toronto International Film Festival for Children announced 10 awards on April 22, 2007, at the Sprockets Awards ceremony at the Winter Garden Theatre. Four awards were decided upon by children's juries (three designated for feature films, one for shorts), two audience awards were determined by festival goers, three awards for Jump Cuts Young Filmmakers Showcase were decided by a jury of film industry professionals and one Students Choice Award was determined by high school students attending the festival.

Persepolis In Competition at Cannes

The Cannes Film Festival has announced the lineup for its 60th edition, which will run from May 16-27, 2007. Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud's black & white 2D animated film, PERSEPOLIS, made the list of 20 films in competition, which includes films from such renown filmmakers as Kim Ki-duk (BREATH), David Fincher (ZODIAC), Quentin Tarantino (DEATH PROOF) and Gus Van Sant (PARANOID PARK). Based on Iranian author Marjane Satrapi's graphic novel autobiographies, the tale is the true story of a precocious girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic revolution. 2.4.7.

Nelvana Unearths Content On Amazon Unbox, Babar on Vuze

Corus Ent. Inc.'s Nelvana Enterprises announced that it will sell its animated and live-action content through Amazon Unbox, Amazon.com's video download service that offers digital downloads of movies and television shows.

MIPTV 2007 in Cannes April 16-20 seems to be off to a bright airy start, partly in thanks to the warm weather and the ever-increasing exhibition space for participants. Rintindumb Romps Back To Cannes With Raft Of Deals

Xilam's canine comedy RINTINDUMB (75 x 1 minute 30 seconds), featuring Lucky Luke's sidekick, the dumbest dog in the west, has been picked up by a raft of broadcasters at MIPTV. Banff World TV Festival Announces Nominees

The Banff World Television Festival, in partnership with Alberta Film, has announced the nominees for the Banff World Television Awards, the annual international television program competition, which this year attracted more than 800 entries across 20 categories.

The award winners will be announced at the 28th Banff World Television Awards Show, presented in partnership with CanWest MediaWorks, at the Fairmont Banff Springs, in Banff Canada, on June 11, 2007.

Taffy Pulls Into MIPTV With New Fantastic Four & Bobby's World Deals

Taffy Ent. will pull into MIPTV with new deals for animated series FANTASTIC FOUR and BOBBY'S WORLD.

Taffy Ent. has signed a U.K. deal for FANTASTIC FOUR, the animated series based on Marvel's superhero franchise. GMTV has acquired the program for its weekend children's strand, Toonattik, which airs on ITV1 and CITV.

In separate deals, the series has also been snapped up by TV Globo in Brazil, MRTL in Hungary and Fox Video for Europe and Latin America.

Nelvana Brings a Rabbit & Defenders to MIPTV

Corus Ent. Inc.'s Nelvana Enterprises is bringing MY FRIEND RABBIT and DI-GATA DEFENDERS to MIPTV.

Based on Eric Rohmann's 2003 Caldecott Gold Medal-winning children's book, MY FRIEND RABBIT will be produced by Nelvana Studios and was commissioned by Treehouse, Corus' preschool broadcast service in Canada.

Chan & Li's Forbidden Kingdom Takes Roots at Lionsgate

Lionsgate will be the domestic distributor for Jackie Chan and Jet Li's previously untitled J&J project, which is now known as THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Lionsgate will co-release the film with the Weinstein Co.
