Zachary Gordon is Fox's Wimpy Kid
Fox 2000 has tapped Zachary Gordon to play the title role in DIARY OF A WIMPY KID, per THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Chloe Moretz is in negotiations for the female lead in the adaptation of Jeff Kinney's illustrated novels.
Thor Freudenthal is set to direct. Nina Jacobson is producing under her Color Force banner with Brad Simpson. The story follows a smart-aleck middle-school kid during the course of an academic year. Moretz would play an intense student with a wry sense of humor. Rachel Harris will play Gordon's mother.
Told in diary and cartoon format, the WIMPY KID books have more than 16 million copies in print. The screenplay was written by Jeff Filgo & Jackie Filgo and Jeff Judah & Gabe Sachs. Carla Hacken and Nick D'Angelo are overseeing for the studio.
An open casting call has been set out for extras in Vancouver, where the film will begin shooting August 12. The film is set for an April 2, 2010 release.
Gordon has done voice work for Nickelodeon's BUBBLE GUPPIES and has appeared in films like NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS. Moretz is set to play Hit Girl in KICK-ASS in Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of Mark Millar's comic.
