Manchester, UK-based animation studio Young was commissioned by ad agency Network Warrington to produce a commercial promoting the new Midas Card, which eliminates the need to carry change and makes traveling on buses easier.
The work came to Young on the heels of an announcement that the company would be diversifying its offerings with new collaborations with some of the world’s best image makers.
“After coming up with the ‘tragic love story’ concept, we immediately knew that we were going for an American 50’s cartoon feel,” said Pete Jarvis, Creative Director at Young. “We looked through our database of illustration partners and immediately knew that Peter Donnelly was the right man for the job.”
Young drew influence from Warrington’s Golden Gates as the backstory for the concept, developing a king Midas character who one day locks eyes with a beautiful girl on the bus. Different days of the week and tongue-in cheek miss-happenings are then used to convey the benefits of using the Midas card as the king struggles to get to his love interest, always on the same bus.
Natalie Kissak, Marketing Executive at Warrington Borough transport said: “Young were able to produce a professional, fun and engaging video that met our needs perfectly. Working with Young has been a positive experience and we were very impressed by their commitment and professionalism. They kept us fully informed at every stage so we had full control and the final product far exceeded our expectations. We would happily work with Young again and would definitely recommend them to other companies.”
