Wolf Brother First Of Darkness Books On Track For Theatrical
Fox 2000 Pictures has signed a seven-figure deal with John Fusco (SPIRIT: STALLION OF THE CIMARRON, YOUNG GUNS) to write screen adaptation of WOLF BROTHER, the first book in the CHRONICLES OF DARKNESS books by British author Michelle Paver, VARIETY reported.
The children's book, set 6,000 years ago, follows a 12-year-old as he and his wolf companion try to save the world from evil forces. WOLF BROTHER, published by Orion, became a bestseller in the U.K., selling more than 100,000 copies within a few weeks of its debut there. The second book in the series, SPIRIT WALKER, issues in the U.K. September and arrives in the U.S. next year.
In addition to writing to DreamWorks' animated SPIRIT: STALLION OF THE CIMARRON, Fusco also wrote Disney horse opera, HIDALGO.
WOLF BROTHER is being produced by Ridley and Tony Scott's Fox-based Scott Free studio, with Scott Free production exec Erin Upson overseeing the project's development. Fox 2000 optioned the book last January for $250,000 against $1 million.
