Directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Steven Spielberg, the landmark comedy mystery starred Bob Hoskins as a 1930s gumshoe working in Hollywood and Toontown to help the fast-talking "toon" character named Roger Rabbit (voiced by Charlie Fleischer) who is accused of murdering the chief of Acme Studios. A roster of toon stars from the Walt Disney and Warner Bros. catalogs also make appearances. Don Hahn was associate producer on ROGER RABBIT, which was shot in Los Angeles and London. Legendary animator Richard Williams handled most of the animation in London while Industrial Light & Magic handled effects in its Northern California studio. The film received Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Effects, Best Film Editing and a Special Achievement Award for Animation Direction & Creation of Cartoon Characters given to Williams in 1989.
