files/pictures/picture-35.jpgAfter ditching it to virtually remake the entire film with director Renny Harlin, Morgan Creek has decided to release helmer Paul Schraders EXORCIST prequel in theaters on May 20, 2005, according to VARIETY. Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute the film to a limited number of theaters. Having made two complete films for roughly $70 million dollars, the Renny Harlin version of the film grossed only $80 million worldwide.
The Schrader version premiered at the Brussels Fantasy Film Festival last month to good word. Plus, the controversy over the production that piqued fan interest in the more psychological thriller and both Morgan Creek and Warner are surely hoping they can make money off a film that would have otherwise sat on a shelf.
Morgan Creek Intl. is handling the international distribution and the film is already playing in the Netherlands.
For the U.S. release a title is still being decided on. At Brussels, the film was dubbed PAUL SCHRADER'S THE EXORCIST: THE ORIGINAL PREQUEL, however, Morgan Creek may release it as DOMINION: A PREQUEL TO THE EXORCIST.
