For the weekend of April 30-May 2, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET claimed teenage lives, as well as the top spot at the box office. The return of Freddy Krueger (with vfx from Method Studios) earned $32.2 million.
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON flew into second place with another $10.8 million. DreamWorks' animated hit was secured $192.4 million thus far.
DATE NIGHT loves third place, remaining there for the third week. The Fox action-comedy made an additional $7.6 million, lifting its cume to $73.6 million.
THE BACK-UP PLAN tumbled to fourth with $7.24 million, bringing its two-week cume to $23 million.
Brendan Fraser's latest family comedy, FURRY VENGEANCE, debuted in fifth, earning $6.5 million. The animal revenge flick features vfx from Furious FX and RotoFactory.
Placing sixth, THE LOSERS (vfx by Image Engine Design) collected another $6 million, raising its cume to $18.1 million. KICK-ASS landed in eighth place, making $4.45 million. With vfx by Double Negative, Ghost VFX, Lip Sync Post, Plowman Craven & Associates and The Senate Visual Effects, the superhero spoof has earned a total of $42.2 million.
DEATH AT A FUNERAL arrived at #9 with $4 million and a cume of $34.8 million, while Buena Vista's OCEANS rounded out the top ten with $2.6 million and a cume of $13. 5 million.
