DISTRICT 9 writer/director Neill Blomkamp has set up his next sci-fi production with Media Rights Capital, VARIETY reports. QED exec Bill Block is producing the untitled project.
MRC CEO Modi Wiczyk and MRC Films president Tory Metzger greenlit the project based on Blomkamp's pitch. The director will begin writing immediately with production set to begin next year. Blomkamp and Block will own a piece of the film.
Like DISTRICT 9, the new film will have a small budget for a sci-fi production, but one bigger than the $30 million Blomkamp had for his first feature, which became a surprise summer hit.
MRC will find a distributor once production has begun.
