VES Announces eDIT 8. Festival Highlights
The Visual Effects Society (VES) announced the schedule of events for eDIT 8. The Filmmakers Festival, taking place in Frankfurt, Germany, from Oct. 911, 2005. Focusing on storytelling in the digital age, eDIT 8 will feature more than 40 different presentations covering a wide range of production aspects, including editing, writing, digital cinema, sound design, producing, visual effects in commercials, television design and much more. While eDIT 8s major focus in on visual effects, 3D animation and digital storytelling, it includes panels and presentations that cover virtually every aspect of film, television and commercial production.
The Filmmakers Festival is a unique, truly international event, stated Eric Roth, exec director of the VES. As a global organization, the VES is pleased to be part of eDIT 8 for the fifth year in a row as it serves our common goal to unite the international digital film community.
Among the panels and presentations are WAR OF THE WORLDS and STAR WARS: EPISODE III by ILM; KINGDOM OF HEAVEN and CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY by MPC; BATMAN BEGINS by Double Negative, MPC and BUF; SIN CITY by CafeFX; and THE BROTHERS GRIMM by Peerless Camera.
A special one-on-one interview will be held with Academy Award and VES Award-winning animator/director Phil Tippett, who will receive the Festivals highest honor. Past Festival honorees include director Peter Greenaway, cinematographers Michael Ballhaus and Vilmos Zsigmond, visual effects supervisor Dennis Muren, editor Tom Rolf, production designer Dante Ferretti and legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick.
Day Two of the Festival is dedicated to animation and will feature panels and presentations on Digital Actors, Digital Beauties, Great Animation & Storytelling and a show of selected animated shorts presented by Dan Sarto, publisher of AWN and VFXWorld. The festival will close with a presentation by Aardman and a special sneak preview screening of the new stop motion feature WALLACE & GROMIT: THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT, which opens in Europe two days later.
