Universal Finds New Wolfman Helmer
Universal Pictures has hired Joe Johnston, helmer of JURASSIC PARK III and THE ROCKETEER, to step into the empty director's chair on WOLFMAN, after the original director, Mark Romanek, left the project last week, reports VARIETY. Production is set to begin in London in March. Romanek left the project suddenly over budgetary issues.
Benicio Del Toro will play a man who returns to his ancestral home in England to see his father (Anthony Hopkins). During his visit, he falls for a pretty young woman (Emily Blunt) before he is bitten by a werewolf and transformed into a creature of the night.
Johnston will have to work from the script that Romanek developed with writer Andrew Kevin Walker. Scott Stuber, Mary Parent, Sean Daniel, Rick Yorn and Andy Davis are producing.
