Press Release from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
CULVER CITY, CALIF. (June 7, 2011) – Sony Pictures Home Entertainment today announced its Battle: Los Angeles Layar app is now available in the U.S. in the Android Marketplace and the iTunes App Store, making it the first Home Entertainment studio to leverage the latest Layar software release for a promotional campaign.
Based on the international box office hit BATTLE: LOS ANGELES, starring Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez, this augmented reality app allows users to virtually create and share a “world invasion” – including aliens and battle drones – in their town, office or home via their phone camera’s view screen! Users can also take screenshots of their “reality” and post to Facebook or Twitter.
Inside the app, you can also access an exclusive sneak peek of a playable game demo of the highly anticipated, first-person shooter PlayStation 3 game Resistance 3, the latest installment of the post-apocalyptic franchise coming in September from developer Insomniac games. You can also enter for a chance to win a PS3 system!
The BATTLE: LOS ANGELES Layar app is available for free in the Android Marketplace and the iTunes App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and will also be available in select territories worldwide, translated into Dutch, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Russian.
A demonstration of BATTLE: LOS ANGELES mobile augmented reality app is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vs5WNbtAtXg. You can also learn more on the official site at www.BattleLA-Movie.com, or on the film’s official Facebook (www.Facebook.com/BattleLAMovie) and Twitter (@BattleLA) profiles.
The BATTLE: LOS ANGELES layer was developed and designed by Zehnder Communications, a fully integrated advertising agency and certified Layar developer. As one of the initial members of the Layar Partner Network, Zehnder Communications has created layers for clients like Walt Disney World, the NBA’s Orlando Magic and the Voodoo Experience, one of New Orleans’ premier live-music festivals.
The Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack, Blu-ray and DVD will be available June 14 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Exclusively available on the BATTLE: LOS ANGELES single-disc Blu-ray for a limited time is a playable game demo of the first-person shooter PS3 game Resistance 3, the latest installment in the multi-million selling post-apocalyptic franchise, coming in September from developer Insomniac Games and Sony Computer Entertainment America.
BATTLE: LOS ANGELES will be available for $38.96 SRP (BD/DVD Combo Pack), $34.95 (BD) and $28.95 SRP (DVD). Visit BATTLE: LOS ANGELES on the web at www.Facebook.com/BattleLAMovie and BattleLA.com.
About BATTLE: LOS ANGELESFor years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world -- Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, and China. But in 2011, what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces. As people everywhere watch the world's great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It's up to a Marine staff sergeant (Eckhart) and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they've ever encountered before. BATTLE: LOS ANGELES was written by Chris Bertolini (The General’s Daughter) and produced by Neal H. Moritz and Ori Marmur (The Green Hornet, The Bounty Hunter). Executive producers are Jeffrey Chernov (upcoming Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Star Trek) and David Greenblatt.
