SOFTIMAGE|XSI v.3.0 Released
Softimage Co. has released version 3.0 of its SOFTIMAGE|XSI 3D nonlinear production environment. SOFTIMAGE|XSI v.3.0 introduces new features and toolsets for use in feature film, television and video games. New features include: an XSI explorer and object view; multiple-resolution reference models; an enhanced next-generation animation mixer; character designer and new character rigging tools; enhancements to hair simulation; light rig tools for working with HDR images; interactive rendering with access to mental ray; an integrated compositor with animatable rotosplines, Cineon support, and an RGB, HSV and luminance keyer; and expanded DirectX and Nvidia Cg real-time shader support. SOFTIMAGE|XSI v. 3.0 underwent extensive beta testing and Softimage reported customer enthusiasm for its performance, workflow and feature innovations in addition to the software's overall stability. Consequentially, many companies have already used the SOFTIMAGE|XSI v.3.0 environment extensively in production, including French post-production facility la maison, and the Oscar-winning special effects company The Mill. SOFTIMAGE|XSI v.3.0 supports Windows, Linux and IRIX operating systems and is now available with pricing starting at US$6,750. Until December 22, 2002, existing SOFTIMAGE|XSI customers can upgrade to version 3.0 of SOFTIMAGE|XSI for as little as US$1,395 and SOFTIMAGE|3D customers can trade-up to the SOFTIMAGE|XSI environment starting at US$3,500. Additionally, until December 22, 2002, Softimage is offering trade-in credits for old 3D software toward the purchase of the SOFTIMAGE|XSI environment. Customers can trade-in one of the following software packages, Alias|Wavefront Maya Builder, Maya Complete and Maya Unlimited, discreet 3ds max, NewTek Lightwave, Side Effects Houdini, and save up to US$6,500 off the price of the SOFTIMAGE|XSI software.
