NEW YORK, NY -- Little Airplane Productions’ Meet the Small Potatoes is set to make its world television broadcast premiere Friday, February 15 on Disney Channel (10:30 a.m. ET/9:30 a.m. CT) and Disney Junior (6:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. CT). Hundreds of avatars of Small Potatoes fans, selected through an on-line promotion, are now part of the Meet the Small Potatoes cast and are included in shots throughout the film.
Little Airplane has licensed North American rights for the musical animated movie to Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Universal will distribute Meet the Small Potatoes for DVD and digital formats later this spring.
The film will make its theatrical debut as part of the New York International Children's Film Festival and will premiere on March 2. Small Potatoes is a Facebook phenomenon with over 1.5 million fans.
Meet the Small Potatoes tells the history of the band the Small Potatoes and follows the rise, breakup and triumphant comeback of the four singing spuds. The movie stars the voice of Malcolm McDowell as the band’s manager.
Meet the Small Potatoes is written and directed by Little Airplane’s Founder and President Josh Selig and produced entirely in his New York studio. The music was also produced at Little Airplane and includes original songs by the late Jerry Bock (Fiddler on the Roof). Selig and Little Airplane have created numerous hit television series for young audiences, including The Wonder Pets, 3rd & Bird and Small Potatoes.
“We’re very excited about both the upcoming Disney Junior premiere and Universal’s release on DVD and digital," said Selig. "The integration of the Small Potatoes' fans into the cast of our animated film is, we believe, a first in movie making history and we're proud that Small Potatoes is leading the way in this new digital frontier."
