Los Angeles, CA -- Shotgun Software, a leading pipeline tools developer for the visual effects, games and animation industries, has hired Rob Blau as Head of Pipeline Engineering. Formerly a Pipeline Supervisor at Laika and Dreamworks, Blau brings a wealth of experience to Shotgun to launch its new pipeline team. In this new role, he'll work closely with clients to iterate various workflows and develop innovative new tools and pipelines that encapsulate and perpetuate best industry practices.
"I was a Shotgun customer during my years at Laika, and was always impressed by the work they were doing," said Blau. "Before Shotgun, everybody thought that a good production tracking system had to be built from the ground up, but then along came these guys who delivered the impossible: a simple, configurable tool for production management that studios of any size can use. Joining the company gives me the unique opportunity to simplify the way hundreds of artists work and to deliver world class pipelines; not just for one studio, but for every studio."
"We've collaborated with Rob for years and have always been impressed by the caliber of his work; he's one in a million. It's evident that he cares deeply about helping studios work faster and more efficiently and that he has a natural knack for finding pragmatic solutions to complex problems," said Shotgun CEO Don Parker. "He's a perfect fit for our expanding team and his presence will help us fulfill our vision of providing studios with state-of-the-art pipelines, fostering conversations about best industry practices and encouraging the creation and support of the standards that our customers value so highly."
Prior to spending four years at Laika, Blau worked at DreamWorks Animation for seven years, where he worked his way up to pipeline engineering supervisor. He holds B.S. degrees in math and computer science and an M.S. in computer science, from MIT.
