Plush Partner Added To 'Roobarb and Custard' Program
Press release from Bulldog Licensing:
Bulldog Licensing has announced details of an agreement for classic animation property Roobarb and Custard that will see the development of a brand new plush line featuring the cartoon icons.
Roobarb and his feline adversary Custard were created by Grange Calveley in the early 1970's and starred in the Bob Godfrey-directed BBC cartoon series Roobarb. Narrated by Richard Briers, only one series was originally produced, but the trademark wobbly animation, zany storylines and fiendishly catchy theme tune made the show into a cult sensation - winning a legion of devoted followers of all ages during the 70’s and 80’s. A brand new series, Roobarb and Custard Too, hit the screens in 2005 and has since been broadcast regularly by Channel Five, pulling in a whole new generation of fans.
The new deal will see plush specialist Brazier & Co developing an adorable range of Roobarb and Custard items for retail, which will include large plush, beanies and clippers.
The agreement adds to the property’s considerable presence in the licensing sector and comes hot on the heels of a string of deals that have seen Fred and Ginger come on board for pet accessories and Fatspanner for pub entertainment machines. Other existing partners include Mogzilla for publishing, Poetic Gem for apparel, Museums and Galleries for greetings and Riviera for canvas wall art. The animated duo also act as champions for leading animal charity the PDSA.
“We are delighted to be adding Brazier to the Roobarb and Custard licensing programme – the brand is perfect for plush as the characters are instantly recognisable and will really stand out on-shelf, so we expect product to perform very well at retail,” says Bulldog MD Rob Corney.
