Columbia Pictures' THE OTHER GUYS unseated three-week box office champion INCEPTION for the weekend of Aug. 6-8, 2010. With vfx from Evil Eye Pictures, Kerner Optical and RhinoFX, the buddy cop comedy earned $35.6 million in its opening weekend.
In second, INCEPTION collected another $18.6 million. With vfx from Double Negative, Christopher Nolan's hit has made $227.7 million to date.
Buena Vista's STEP UP 3-D premiered in third with $15.5 million. CEG Media and Hirota Paint Industries provided visual effects and animation for the dance flick.
Sony's SALT slipped to fourth with $11.1 million. With visual effects from CIS Vancouver, Framestore, Hirota Paint Industries (HPI), Lola Visual Effects, Proof and RhinoFX, the Angelina Jolie throwback thriller has a cume of $92 million.
DreamWorks' DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS crashed from second to fifth, serving up another $10.5 million. The American remake of the French comedy DINNER GAME has earned $46.7 million.
Universal's DESPICABLE ME placed sixth with an additional $9.4 million. The animated hit has a cume of $209.4 million.
Warner Bros.' CATS & DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE arrived in seventh, making $6.91 million. With vfx from Anibrain, Realscan 3D, Soho VFX, Svengali Visual Effects and Tippett Studio, the live-action/animation hybrid has collected only $26.4 million into two weeks.
In at #8, CHARLIE ST. CLOUD rounded up another $4.7 million. With vfx from Mr. X, the Zac Enfron drama has collected $23.5 million thus far.
TOY STORY 3 arrived in ninth with $3.05 million. The summer sensation has a cume of $396.3 million.
Closing out the top ten was indie dramedy THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT with $2.61 million. In five weeks, the Focus Feature release has made $14 million.
