Oscar Shorts Get Theatrical Run
If you'd like to see all five Oscar-nominated animated shorts on the big screen you now can in select cities thanks to Apollo Cinema, an international shorts distribution company, that has packaged them into a compilaton package that premieres March 14, 2003 in Los Angeles and New York. The animated shorts have been combined with live-action short contenders into a single 91-minute program that will run daily for two weeks at the Laemmle Fairfax 3 in Los Angeles and the Two Boots Pioneer Theater in New York. The animated shorts are MIKE'S NEW CAR (Pete Docter, Roger Gould, USA), THE CHUBBCHUBBS (Eric Armstrong, USA), THE CATHEDRAL (Tomek Baginksi, Poland), DAS RAD (Chris Stenner, Heidi Wittlinger, Germany) and ATAMA YAMA (Koji Yamamura, Japan). Live-action shorts are FAIT D'HIVER, J'ATTENDRAI LE SUIVANT, INJA and DER ER NN YNIG MAND. The program is booked so far in San Francisco, Toronto, Denver, Portland, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Boston, Dallas and Seattle, to name a few. The Laemmle in Los Angeles will also show all four of the nominated documentary shorts in a 135-minute compilation to run weekends at 11 a.m. at the Laemmle Monica 4-Plex in Santa Monica. Docu shorts are THE COLLECTOR OF BEDFORD STREET, MIGHTY TIME: THE LEGACY OF ROSA PARKS, WHY CAN'T WE BE A FAMILY AGAIN and TWIN TOWERS.
