No Strings Unseats Green Hornet at Box Office
Paramount's romcom NO STRINGS ATTACHED unseated THE GREEN HORNET at the top of the U.S. box office for the weekend of Jan. 21-23, 2011. The Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher-starrer earned $20.3 million in first place.
Columbia's THE GREEN HORNET landed in second, bringing in another $18.1 million. With vfx from CEG Media, CIS Hollywood, Luma Pictures and Proof, the superhero spoof has amassed $63.4 million in two weeks.
Universal's Ron Howard-directed comedy THE DILEMMA slipped to third, adding $9.73 million to its $33.4 million cume.
Weinstein Co.'s THE KING'S SPEECH held strong in fourth, earning $9.16 million. With visual effects from Molinare Studio and Pixion, the Oscar-hopeful has collected $58.6 million thus far.
Paramount's TRUE GRIT finished in fifth, hauling in another $8 million. With vfx from Creature Effects, Luma Pictures, Special FX International, Tinsley Studio and Wolf Stuntworks, the Western hit has snatched $138.6 million.
Fox Searchlight's BLACK SWAN floated into sixth with $6.2 million. With vfx from Look Effects, the ballet thriller has danced away with $83.6 million.
Surging from ninth to seventh, Paramount's THE FIGHTER knocked out an additional $4.52 million. With visual effects from Comen VFX, David O. Russell's boxing biopic has earned $73 million.
In eighth, Universal's LITTLE FOCKERS piled on $4.39 million to its $141.2 million cume.
Warner Bros.'s YOGI BEAR popped up in ninth with $4.06 million. With vfx from Rhythm & Hues, Entity FX and NeoReel, the latest LAFF has brought in $88.9 million thus far.
Closing out the top ten, Disney's TRON: LEGACY scored another $3.71 million. With visual effects provided by Digital Domain, Mr. X and Prime Focus, the long-awaited sequel has a cume of $163.3 million.
