Nick.com has announced the launch of its first online comic book, THE CRIMSON CHIN, an interactive spin-off of Nickelodeon's animated comedy series, THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS. The TV series follows the adventures of 10-year-old Timmy Turner and his troublesome fairy godparents Cosmo and Wanda. In August, in a move for TV and online convergence, THE CRIMSON CHIN Webisodes will debut as one-minute interstitials on Nickelodeon. The new six-part online series is a joint project between Nick.com and Nickelodeon Animation Studios animator Butch Hartman, the creator and executive director of THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS. Prior to Nickelodeon, Hartman worked at Hanna-Barbera doing storyboard work, directing cartoons and creating his own shorts for WHAT A CARTOON!, in addition to writing and directing episodes of DEXTER'S LABORATORY, COW & CHICKEN and JOHNNY BRAVO. Each installment will introduce a body parts-themed archenemy of The Crimson Chin crew, including The Iron Lung and The Copper Cranium. The last Webisode will feature one villain who is the culmination of the previously defeated enemy body parts. "A clever concept translates into any media, and Nickelodeon wants convergent ideas to be great entertainment first and foremost, both on-air and online," said Cyma Zarghami, executive vice president and general manager, Nickelodeon. Mike Skagerlind, general manager of Nick.com, said, "This interactive comic book series is important to us because it allows Nickelodeon to simultaneously develop different aspects of THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS into convergent media. The series also provides a great boost to our slate of what we call 'playable animations' that will debut on Nick.com this year, where users can become involved in the action."
