MTV Selects Pinnacle Systems' Liquid Editing Solutions
MTV Networks Europe will deploy Pinnacle Systems' Liquid blue, chrome and Liquid Edition (formerly Liquid purple) editing tools within their new, shared workflow operations in Benelux. The purchase is part of an extensive program by MTV Networks Europe to build a fully networked broadcast environment for their MTV, TMF and Nickelodeon TV channel groups within the region.
The site in Bussum, North Holland, has been equipped with a storage area network (SAN) that offers greater reliability and advanced shared media capabilities. The Pinnacle Liquid editors will be fully integrated into the SAN, giving MTV both the advantages of networked media and one of the most comprehensive broadcast editing solution mixes available to programmers today.
The fusion of the Pinnacle solution with the SAN allows material to be accessed across MTV Europe's broadcast workflow, from ingest, to editing, to playout. Liquid's network aware file management features offer a seamless integration process, delivering greater efficiency and operational flexibility.
Liquid blue, Pinnacle's flagship networked craft editor for broadcast professionals, offers full end-to-end native digital production in multiple formats. The MTV Europe purchase also includes Liquid chrome for post-production functionality, and Liquid Edition for the company's DV editing needs. The Pinnacle Liquid editing application was designed with image quality and workflow efficiency at its core, and features a unified workspace for multi-layer editing, effects and compositing.
Mike Spinks, vp broadcast technology, MTV Networks Europe, comments: "MTV has a proud tradition of being a pioneering broadcaster within Europe. To continue to achieve this we must have in place the infrastructure to facilitate this. The rational behind our networking strategies is built upon our philosophy of enabling local operations to leverage the power of the entire network."
Richard Scott, vp of EAME and managing director for the Broadcast & Professional division at Pinnacle Systems added: "Sophisticated organizations such as MTV Europe are seeking ways to apply the latest networked media technologies to deliver greater value across their entire broadcast operations. The open platform at the core of the Liquid family makes deploying wide ranging infrastructure changes significantly less daunting by simplifying the integration process and providing for superior interoperability. Furthermore the breadth of the Liquid product range presents a level of choice that allows broadcasters to select a genuinely tailored toolset solution that readily adapts to changing needs."
The key goal behind the MTV Europe strategy was to create a tapeless work environment in which time and labor-intensive file transfers are consigned to the history books. The advantages of such IT networking will be felt across the workflow in myriad daily processes, from the ingest of source material to the SAN using Liquid blue through carrying out advanced 3D DVE post production with Liquid chrome.
