STAR BLAZERS was originally produced in Japan in 1974 under the title UCHUU SENCHEN YAMATO, and was dubbed for English speaking audiences and aired on U.S. television as STAR BLAZERS - THE QUEST FOR ISCANDAR. SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO, the first movie based on the TV series, was released in 1977. Farewell to SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO followed soon after as a movie and held the record as the highest attended animation movie in Japan. The movie was re-released in 1978, followed by the second television series THE COMET EMPIRE. SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO - THE NEW VOYAGE, also called THE NEW JOURNEY, was a television teaser for the theatrical release of BE FOREVER YAMATO. The third TV series shown in the United States was called THE BOLAR WARS and the last Yamato movie was titled FINAL YAMATO. In the STAR BLAZERS episodes, the characters find themselves at war, not only with their main enemies Desslok of Gamilon and Prince Zordar of the Comet Empire, but amongst themselves as well. In time, these rivalries fade and relationships form between some of the major characters.
