MIPCOM Junior - Strong On Animation
On October 6, 2002, MIPCOM Junior wrapped up its 10th year with the market reaching its all-time high in number of buyers. According to organizers, 433 buyers of childrens programs from 53 countries attended the two-day event, with animation remaining the favorite category and scoring the highest number of screenings. The total number of buyers represented a 19.3% increase compared to last year. Buyers from the American continent represented the largest increase in the overall number of buyers (up 54.8% compared to last year), followed by the Asia Pacific region (+40.5%) and Africa/Middle East (+36.4%). Although the number of buyer's increased, the selections decreased slightly, as 685 programs were presented at MIPCOM Junior (which was down -8% compared to last years 758 programs). Out of 12,052 screenings, the most screened category was animation with 9,851 screenings (+5.88% compared to last year), followed by drama/fiction (893 screenings) and education (557). MIPCOM Juniors 30 most screened titles were all animation. In total 166 seller companies, 192 buyer companies and an overall number of 685 participants from 53 countries attended MIPCOM Junior 2002.
