Coolabi announces new licensing partnerships with Cozy Time and Portico for the classic property, Bagpuss.
Cozy Time sources and supplies quality, affordable products that are functional and fun. The new licensed products for Bagpuss will include a large range of plush toys and accessories - all to be launched in Spring 2013. The three-year contract will give Cozy Time distribution rights to all retail channels in the UK and Ireland.
David Torrance, Cozy Time, comments, “We are very pleased to be working with Coolabi. Bagpuss will be 40 years old in February 2014 and the property remains as popular as ever. We will have traditional Bagpuss plush items within our range but also new and exciting products to appeal to a fresh generation of children and adults. It is our intention to give Bagpuss a new lease of life to ensure that he remains the most important, beautiful and magical cat in the world for many years to come.”
Portico will be licensed to create physical and print on demand greeting cards, as well as 2014 and 2015 Bagpuss calendars. The two-year deal will be for all retail channels in the UK.
Simon Harrison, Managing Director at Portico Designs says, “We are proud to be associated with the 40th anniversary of such an iconic brand. We will be launching calendars at ISF with greetings cards following in the Spring.”
Fran Huxley, Coolabi Licensing adds, “The on-going appeal of Bagpuss continues to be as strong as ever. We are delighted to be working with Cozy Time and Portico and seeing the reaction to the new product ranges at Spring Fair.”
The Bagpuss series was first aired on the BBC in 1974, and, although just 13 episodes were made, the films ran for 26 weeks a year for 13 years. In 2010, the show was voted number one in a BBC poll of programs which adults would most like the BBC to bring back, as well as the number three greatest kids’ TV show in a Sky survey.
Coolabi represents the rights to the classic brand on behalf of Smallfilms and Peter Firmin, along with other well-known brands the Clangers and Ivor the Engine.
