The videogame industry is still feeling the effects of the global recession, posting its sixth straight month of slumping sales, reports VARIETY [1]. For August, sales were at $909 million, which is down 16% for the year-to-date period. For 2009, the biz is down 14%. In July console sales saw a sales increase, but still overall for the year sales have dropped 17%.
A highlight of the month was the release of Warner Bros. and Eidos Interactive's BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM, which has sold 593,000 units on Xbox 360 and PS3.
The prospects for September look very good with blockbuster titles BEATLES: ROCK BAND and GUITAR HERO 5 hitting stores.
