Oxford, 16 December 2010. Novel Entertainment is launching an iPhone App based on the hit CITV-commissioned animated series Horrid Henry. The Horrid Henry app is available worldwide, and retails at £0.59 in the UK.
Available for use on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, the app contains all the sounds that kids need to be extra specially horrid, just like Henry! It features nine of Henry’s most popular sounds and sayings, a Purple Hand button which plays one of seventeen random sounds, a cool video of Henry and links to Henry’s website where consumers can play games, win prizes and join Henry’s Purple Hand Gang.
Novel’s Brand Manager Kelly Henwood says: “The iPhone, iPad and iPod touch are natural platforms for extending the Horrid Henry brand and this new app offers kids the opportunity to engage in the humour of the brand. We are excited to be taking Henry to new audiences and consumers across the world via these new and developing platforms.”
Based on characters created by author Francesca Simon, illustrated by Tony Ross and published by Orion Children's Books, Horrid Henry is a major multi-media brand. The books are translated into 22 languages, and are available in 27 countries including the US, with sales exceeding 16 million books in the UK alone.
The three times BAFTA-nominated TV series is the most popular series ever for CITV. Henry will also soon be seen on the big screen in 2011 in the UK’s first 3D live action kids film as, ‘Horrid Henry: The Movie’, produced by Novel Entertainment and Vertigo Films.
A live stage show ran for more than 280 performances in London’s West End and across the UK from 2009 and the website www.horridhenry.me
has attracted more than 6 million hits since its launch in October 2009. Two computer games have been released for the Nintendo platform; the first selling more than 100,000 units to date in the UK alone and a second was released in November 2010. Henry has also released his own music album, appeared live at Legoland, broadcast his own radio show, and featured in the recent, hugely popular, Marmite campaign.
Novel Entertainment was created by highly respected international children's television producers Lucinda Whiteley and Mike Watts in 2001 to produce children's and family programming, both live action and animation. Novel has a strong track record of working with highly acclaimed authors and illustrators, with a combination of totally original and book based projects. To date Novel has produced 230 Fimbles shows and 130 Roly Mo shows for the BBC, and the recent new commission from CITV will bring the total number of Horrid Henry episodes produced to 104.
