German Gov to Fund Tykwer/Wachowski Sib's Cloud Atlas
Filmstiftung NRW, a German subsidy firm, will invest Euros 1 million ($1.4 million) into Tom Tykwer/Wachowski Siblings epic adaptation of CLOUD ATLAS, reports Variety. Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg already committed $2.1 million to the project. The budget is set at $100 million.
Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Ben Whishaw and Susan Sarandon are set to star. Based on David Mitchell's novel, the story follows six interconnected stories over 500 years starting in the 19th century and ending in a post-apocalyptic future.
Stefan Arndt and Grant Hill are producing.
X-Filme Creative Pool and Cloud Atlas Filmproduction are the production houses. X-Filme holds the German rights, Warner Bros. the U.S. and Focus Feature international.
Production will begin at the close of summer. The filmmakers are eying a 2012 release.
