George Lucas to Be Saluted by Cannes
The 58th Cannes Film Festival will honor George Lucas for his film career with the celebrated "Trophy of the Festival" onboard Cunard Line's Queen Mary 2, on May 15, 2005, to an audience of hundreds of Cannes attendees.
On that same day in Cannes, Lucas will debut the long-anticipated, worldwide preview of STAR WARS: EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH. The film opens in theaters worldwide on May 19.
Lucas joins the ranks of a prestigious group of personalities from around the world previously honored with the "Trophy of the Festival" at Cannes, including Ken Loach, Max Von Sydow, Melanie Griffith, Philippe Noiret, Jeanne Moreau, Sean Penn, Alain Resnais, Gong Li, Gregory Peck and others.
The trophy will be presented to Lucas by Thierry Fremaux, artistic delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, with Veronique Cayla, gm of the Cannes Film Festival. The ceremony will be preceded by a tribute film to Lucas directed by Gilles Jacob, president of the Cannes Film Festival.
