Gladiator Rules While Mars Lands At Top Of Global BO

For the week ending May 11, 2000, GLADIATOR reigned by grossing US$4.53 million in Australia and $5.37 million in the U.K. in its first week in release in both countries. The global gladiator hit has now grossed nearly $86.56 worldwide. Buena Vistas part APOLLO 13-part 2001 space epic, MISSION TO MARS remained atop the charts in Italy where it grossed another $524,264, raising its Italian cume to $1.92 million. The sci-fi adventure debuted at #1 in Germany this past week grossing $896,204. Grossing $826,914, the special effects spectacle also made its first run in Brazil where it finished in second behind global phenomenon ERIN BROCKOVICH. In its second full week in Sweden, the planetary piece of eye-candy slipped from fifth to sixth grossing another $63,468, bringing its Swedish cume to $515,356. STUART LITTLE is still making waves in several countries finishing in 4th in both France and Australia. The racing rodent racked up $1.51 million in France (French cume $8.97 million) and $361,287 in Australia (Australian cume $10.84 million). Columbias cutie cat-hater finished at #5 in Germany netting another $348,081, bringing its German receipts to $5.36 million. Finishing down two spots at #6, the legions of Littles grossed $60,559 in Hong Kong, which bumped its total take home there to $2.22 million. The truly mighty mouse rounded out the top ten in Brazil, adding $56,486 to its Brazilian cume of $5.29 million. POKEMON: THE FIRST MOVIE is also still vibrant around the globe. The kid sensation finished in third in Spain grossing $612,763 and raising its Spanish cume to $3.94 million. Landing in fifth in both France and Sweden, the Pikachu-vehicle grossed another $1.03 million and $89,029 respectively. The creature-filled cartoon has made $12.3 million in France in 3 weeks and its two-week Swedish total is $711,476. The Japanese export finished in 6th, 7th and 8th in Germany, Italy and the U.K. respectively. The marvelously marketed mega-hit has made $10.28 million in Germany, $4.42 million in Italy and $15.2 million in the U.K. THE TIGGER MOVIE is still hanging on in Brazil and the U.K. Finishing in 5th in Brazil, the new Winnie the Pooh installment grossed an additional $250,549, bringing its cume there to $948,123. The caffinated cat finished down two places at #10 in the U.K., adding $240,207 to its British total of $7.71 million. DreamWorks STAR TREK-parody GALAXY QUEST debuted at #1 in Hong Kong grossing $220,446. Whereas, the premiere of SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER AND UNCUT in Italy only finished in 5th place, making $199,115. Elsewhere, GREEN MILE still dominates the box office in Japan finishing at #1. The prison pic has added another $970,759 to its 6-week total of $17.76 million. TOY STORY 2 is also ringing up receipts in Japan in eighth place. The 3D toon titanic grossed an additional $162,625, raising its Japanese cume to $10.36 million. Also peaking into the top ten in its 16th week in Japan was FANTASIA/2000. On only three screens, the Imax eye-popper made $139,175, bringing its Japanese total to $3.99 million.
