Variety . The simulator ride was the first attraction launched by Disney that was not based on one their films. The original opened in 1987 at Disneyland and a Disney World version followed in 1989. The original version of the ride still runs at Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. For the new 3-D version called Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, Walt Disney Imagineering has redesigned the Starspeeder, pilot and droids featured in the ride.
