Three new films held the top spots this weekend, with Arnold Schwarzeneggers terrorist drama COLLATERAL DAMAGE leading the pack. The film, with visual effects by Digital Film Works, earned $15.1M in its first weekend out. A remake of the 1975 film ROLLERBALL managed to debut in the number three spot despite generally lackluster reviews. The futuristic actioner took in $9M. BLACK HAWK DOWN, last weeks number one film, fell to fourth. The war epic, with visual effects by The Mill and Asylum, earned $8M for a total of $86.7M to date. Disneys SNOW DOGS is sticking around, dropping three spots to fifth with $7.2M for a four week cume of $59.9M. With both films earning close to $6.4M this weekend, THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO and A BEAUTIFUL MIND battled for sixth and seventh place, with THE COUNT finally topping MIND by $100,000. THE LORD OF THE RINGS, with primary visual effects by WETA, fell out of the top ten, earning just $3.6M for a cume of $271.4. Maybe 13 Oscar nominations will boost that box office back into the top ten by next week! JIMMY NEUTRON may also benefit from its Best Animated Feature Oscar nod. In 982 theaters, the Nickelodeon kid flick took in just $741,000 for an eight week total of $78.6M. Box office information obtained from yahoo.com.
