DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD [1] confirmed with Fox that China will be pulling the plug on 2D screenings of AVATAR Jan. 23. The slot will be replaced with a patriotic biopic on the life of Confucius, but a handful of 3-D screenings will continue, DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD reports.
The state-run China Film Group ordered the film's run to end over concerns the movie could cause internal political unrest. AVATAR opened in Chinese theaters on Jan. 4 and was scheduled to run until Feb. 28.
