Demme to Animate Hurricane Katrina
THE NEW YORK TIMES reports that Jonathan Demme is planning an animated feature based on Dave Eggers' Hurricane Katrina book, ZEITOUN. Demme, who purchased the rights to the nonfiction tome himself, said the animated feature idea was inspired by the book's cover illustration done by Rachell Sumpter.
The book chronicles the story of Abdulrahman Zeitoun, a Syrian-American who weathered the storm and rode a canoe around the flooded streets of New Orleans helping people.
Eggers worked on the script for WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE.
