Clash A Titan at the Box Office
In its debut weekend, Warner Bros.’s CLASH OF THE TITANS broke Easter weekend records to gain the top spot at the U.S. box office. With vfx by Framestore, The Moving Picture Company, Cinesite, CEG Media, Flash Film Works, Neil Corbould Special Effects, Nvizible, and Prime Focus View-D, the mythic epic earned $61.4 million for the weekend of April 2-4, 2010. Adding in Thursday preview showings, the film has a total cume of $64 million. For the Easter weekend, the remake smashed the previous record set by SCARY MOVIE 4 with $40.2 million. The film also marked the second largest April opening following only FAST AND FURIOUS with $70.95 million.
Coming in at #2, TYLER PERRY'S WHY DID I GET MARRIED TOO? made $30.2 million in its debut weekend.
Last week’s #1, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, nested at #3 with an additional $29.2 million. Its two-week cume is now $92.3 million.
Another debut film came in fourth, Miley Cyrus-starrer THE LAST SONG garnered $16.2 million. With its Thursday numbers added in, the teen drama has made $25.6 million in total.
Tim Burton’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND tumbled down the rabbit hole and ended up in fifth with another $8.27 million. With visual effects from Café FX, Matte World Digital, Nvizage, Sony Pictures Imageworks, and Svengali Visual Effects, the hit film has collected $309.8 million so far.
HOT TUB TIME MACHINE (vfx by Mr. X) warped into sixth with $8 million, lifting its cume to $27.8 million. In #7, THE BOUNTY HUNTER snatched another $6.2 million, bringing its cume to $49 million. Placing eighth, DIARY OF A WIMPY KID drew up an additional $5.53 million, raising its cume to $46.2 million. SHE’S OUT OF MY LEAGUE finished in ninth with $1.46 million, elevating its total box office take to $28.7 million.
Rounding out the top ten, SHUTTER ISLAND emerged with an additional $1.46 million. With vfx from Crazy Horse Effects, Gentle Giant Studios, Mark Rappaport Creature Effects and New Deal Studios, the Martin Scorsese thriller has made $123.4 million.
