Culver City, CA (10/13/11) – Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions today announced that the studio will distribute STARSHIP TROOPERS: INVASION, a new installment in the hugely popular global sci-fi action phenomenon based on the novel “Starship Troopers” by Robert A. Heinlein. Currently in production in Japan by Sola Digital Arts, Inc., and planned for a worldwide release in the Summer of 2012, this state-of-the-art CGI-animated feature is being directed by Shinji Aramaki, acclaimed director of the animated hits Appleseed, Appleseed Ex-Machina and Halo Legends.
In STARSHIP TROOPERS: INVASION, a distant Federation outpost protected by the Starship John A. Before the attack ship can rendezvous with the starship, Carl Jenkins, now at the ministry of Paranormal Warfare, takes the starship on a clandestine mission and goes missing in the nebula. The battle-hardened troopers are then charged with a rescue mission that may have much more sinister consequences than they ever could have imagined.
STARSHIP TROOPERS: INVASION is being produced by Joseph Chou (Appleseed Ex-Machina, Halo Legends, Space Pirate: Captain Harlock ), and Executive Produced by Edward Neumeier (Starship Troopers franchise, RoboCop franchise) and Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers, Omega Code, Sleepy Hollow).
