LOS ANGELES, Jul 6, 2010 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) --IMAX Corporation (Nasdaq:IMAX) (TSX:IMX) and Summit Entertainment announced today that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the highly anticipated third film in the studio's Twilight franchise, generated gross box office receipts of approximately $9 million from 193 IMAX theatres domestically from Wednesday June 30 through Monday July 5, for a per screen average of approximately $47,000. Internationally, the film opened on 11 IMAX screens, generating an estimated $235,000 from Thursday through Monday.
"We are very pleased with these results, and particularly how they reflect the broadening audience demographic for IMAX," said IMAX's Chief Executive Officer Richard L. Gelfond. "This film marks the 17th consecutive IMAX DMR release to open number one at the box office, demonstrating the ongoing association between the IMAX brand and event-status films."
