and Threshold Digital Research Labs
have signed a four-year, multi-million dollar deal to increase Thresholds production output. The pact puts in place an IT commitment to help Threshold produce computer-animated movies, location-based entertainment, primetime TV animation and visual effects for feature films. A major component of the deal is Thresholds use of IBMs new On Demand technology, which streamlines and speeds up the production process. Currently, the Santa Monica studio is in production on the feature film FOODFIGHT!
, as well as multiple visual effects, TV animation and location-based entertainment projects.
"We are partnering with Threshold because we saw a tremendous opportunity to team up with one of the most innovative companies in town, said Dick Anderson, general manager IBM Media & Entertainment and Digital Media. "We believe FOODFIGHT! is an extremely creative project, and paired with IBM's sophisticated technology we are taking the next step in evolving the way digitally animated movies are made. We at IBM are taking a strong position in the entertainment landscape with this deal, and continue to be a pillar in the future of cinematic forms -- the great art of animation.
"IBM's expertise, equipment and support blows away any boundaries we may encounter producing highly sophisticated computer generated (CG) animation, said Threshold chairman and film producer, Larry Kasanoff. Now, no matter what story we want to tell, if we dream it up, IBM helps make it a reality. With IBM, we are no longer limited by our imaginations."
FOODFIGHT! is a $50M full-length CG animated film. The story takes place in a grocery store, where after hours, all the products and packaging character icons come to life, including Charlie the Tuna, Mr. Clean and Twinkie the Kid.
Threshold Digital Research Labs is a digital animation and visual effects production studio, whose management's credits include TERMINATOR 2, TRUE LIES, MORTAL KOMBAT, THE ABYSS, THE SHADOW, THE LAST ACTION HERO, ARACHNOPHOBIA, TRON, BABYLON 5, DRACULA and THE MASK.
