Fat Rock Entertainment Opens For Business
Created 12/18/2002 - 00:00
David Pritchard, former CEO and president of Film Roman, has launched Fat Rock Entertainment, a new venture dedicated to producing and distributing family-friendly films. Fat Rock has licensed multiple properties from Hasbro, including MY LITTLE PONY and SUPER SOAKERS, upon which it will build its first slate of films. The first of the films is expected to debut in theatres in July 2003. The G-rated films will be in the $5-10 million budget range and will be a combination of live-action and digital animation. The films will be distributed via a theatrical distribution strategy with Loews Cineplex, Cinemark USA, Inc. and Carmike Cinemas, Inc. Additionally, SD Entertainment, a content creator and property builder, has secured an exclusive production agreement with Fat Rock and will produce their first slate of films. Fat Rock will target a family market by utilizing an underused theatrical time early morning to midday. Films will be distributed directly to an affiliated group of theatres for a pre-determined number of weeks to screen on Saturday and Sunday mornings and on extended weekday runs during the summer. "Fat Rock is committed to making the family film experience both a national and a neighborhood event," said David Pritchard, Fat Rock CEO. "With only G-rated content, a relative rarity in today's feature film environment, based on some of the most recognizable properties in the children's business, Fat Rock is creating a safe haven for family film-going that kids will enjoy and parents will embrace. Not only is it a big win for the audience, but a unique way for our theatrical and licensing partners to extend their brands beyond business as usual." In addition to CEO Pritchard, Fat Rock's founders are Charlie Weber, former CEO of Lucasfilm, Ltd. and Embassy Communications; Harvey Finkel, former CFO of 20th Century Fox Studios, New World Entertainment and Intertainer; Greg Rutkowski, former SVP of West Operations for AMC; and Susan White, former marketing and operations executive at Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Warnaco.
