With HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON underperforming compared to DreamWorks Animation’s last feature MONSTERS VS. ALIENS, the company’s stock fell 8% on Tuesday, March 30th, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER [1]. Despite marking a record box office for an animated film on IMAX, DRAGON earned only $43.7 million compared to MONSTERS’ $59.3 million. Shares are now trading at $39.34.
MONSTERS made $382 million globally, which wasn’t enough for DreamWorks to feel comfortable greenlighting a sequel. Some are blaming the poor numbers on the lack of 3-D screens available.
