Disney is pushing up the release date for its live action feature, Maleficent.
The untold story of Disney’s most beloved villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty, the film reveals the events that hardened Maleficent’s heart and drove her to curse the baby Aurora. Produced by Joe Roth and directed by Robert Stromberg, from a screenplay written by Linda Woolverton, the film stars Angelina Jolie as Maleficent, Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville. Previously dated for July 2, 2014, the 3D film will now see a May 30, 2014, release.
The villain story is taking the place of Pixar feature The Good Dinosaur, which has been bumped to 2015. The move was ostensibly made in order to reduce flooding an already busy summer 2014, which will also see the release of franchise installments Transformers 4 and Fast & Furious 7 in addition to RoboCop, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Captain America: Winter Soldier.
Disney also announced that Wikileaks feature The Fifth Estate will now open wide on October 18, 2013, and sports drama McFarland has been dated for November 21, 2014.
